Who We Are

The Wise Legend Student Academy empowers youth through holistic development programs which aims to bridge the gap between learning and achieving. We capacitate young people with the fundamental skills needed to be successful in their social, academic, emotional and professional career paths.

Our Approach

In general skills could be the ability, coming from one’s knowledge, practice, aptitude, etc., to do something well. Skills, with or without training contribute to develop competency, excellence in performance, expertness and dexterity in workplace development. Workplace requirements identifies skills as follows; ¾ thinking skills (critical and creative thinking) ¾ behavioral skills (perseverance, self- discipline, teamwork, the ability to negotiate conflict and manage risk, specific knowledge (including numeracy and literacy) ¾ vocational skills (a mix of specific knowledge and skills to perform jobs that rely on clearly defined tasks).

Basic skills denote the set of minimal abilities needed for further learning, work and life, including numeracy and literacy and basic levels of behavioral skills (decision – making skills, teamwork, the ability to negotiate conflicts and managing risks), specific knowledge applied to real-life situations and vocational skills.

Key Implementation Steps Of The Program:

The holistic development plan for the students consists of the following steps:

Step 1: Student Course Qualifying Criteria

The Following Will Be Implemented During The Student Course Qualifying Criteria:

• Documentation Verification And Auditing

Documentation verification and auditing is important and essential as it, establishes the relevance and merit of that the document holds. All students required documentation will be verified and audited; to ensure students qualifies for training. Students who not qualify will be eliminated.

• Interview Methodology

After elimination, interviews with potential students will take place. Interviews will be conducted with qualified interviewers. Thereafter interviewers will sign off the interviews and recommend suitable training program for the student. Once students have recommended training programs assigned to them, they will than be grouped per their GAP requirement.

Parameters and expectations of students partaking in the training will be addressed The following will be addressed during the induction:

  • The introduction of course objectives
  • Induction to the geographical area of the training centre
  • Classroom management
  • Course management
  • Behaviour strategies 
  • Workplace qualifying criteria’s
  • How to learn and,
  • HR and labour Relations practices of the course.

Classroom management will include the students having a name tag, knowing what time the session’s starts, switching off cell phones, absenteeism, etc. Course management on the other hand will include, the introduction of the program, explanation of curriculum which students are to follow, introduction to EMS (Electronic Management Systems) and the website where students can obtain course information will be given to students.

Students will also be introduced to stakeholders such as business entrepreneurs, SME’s and SMME corporate companies, being potential future employers of the students. This will assist the student in preparing them for the start of their life journey, bringing all real-life experiences to the student. Developing a stronger individual whose capabilities and functions are that of an independent nature.

Step 5: Supplementary Programs & Life Skill Orientation

  • Supplementary and Life Skill Programs should be conducted before technical training. As both the supplementary and life skill orientation will cater for any deficiencies the student may Core life skills competencies are included, and the student’s needs are addressed during the curriculum design process. The curriculum is adapted and piloted to ensure it is appropriate for the students. Adequate time is allowed for each life skills lesson within a well-paced schedule. Supplementary and Life Skill programs is constantly monitored and evaluated to improve program outcomes.
  • The life skill orientation will include workshops such as Emotional intelligence, Employability skills, business management and youth

Step 6: Mentoring And Monitoring

This will be an ongoing process where students who have completed the program and placed in a job, will receive constant mentoring and monitoring from us. Mentoring and monitoring will assist the student in terms of bridging the gap between educational concepts and actual business experiences, it will boost the moral of the student increasing work productivity and it will give the students the platform in being a leader’s within their field of expertise. Coaching and mentoring will be implemented with the following groups:

  • Students in school, colleges and universities
  • Unemployed graduates
  • Unemployed youth

Programs and Services

EMOTIONAL INTELLIGENCE AND LIFE SKILLS:

Life skills and emotional intelligence are the abilities for adaptive and positive behaviour that will enable the learner to deal effectively with the demands and challenges of everyday life.

Students who understand and use these life skills, along with their educational qualifications, will have an advantage when looking for employment opportunities because they will be able to:

  • Find new ways of thinking and problem solving
  • Recognise the impact of their actions and teaches them to take responsibility for what they do
  • Build confidence both in spoken skills and for group collaboration and cooperation
  • Analyse options, make decisions and understand why they make certain choices outside the classroom
  • Develop a greater sense of self-awareness and appreciation for others

WORKPLACE READINESS SKILLS:

Assisting students’ in the successful transition from the life of a student to the life as a productive employee. Students today are taught academic core subjects, which are useful. But they aren’t gaining all the knowledge they need to seamlessly integrate into the office environment.

Students need to be ready to meet specific employer criteria’s such as:

  • Workplace habits that employers prioritise, including reliability, punctuality, customer service and high quality task completion
  • Teamwork is a very important and is often an absent skill among students entering the workforce
  • Students need to learn how to work well with others
  • Students need to be able to think out of the box and be creative
  • They need to find different ways to offer solutions
  • Planning and Organising
  • Decision Making

WORKPLACE ETHICS:

People face ethical dilemmas every day in the workplace. This course will foster strong work ethics in the students such as:

  • Punctuality: Arriving at work on time
  • Adhering to lunch and breaks and being absent for valid reasons
  • Responsibility: Utilising work time to complete tasks and deadlines and not for personal work
  • Professional image: Be well dressed and adhere to the company dress code
  • Teamwork: Respect others and work well together and be a good team player
  • Attitude: Being pleasant, polite and take on difficult tasks optimistically and willingly.
  • Employees, who have strong ethics in personal and professional life, need no explanation, unlike those employees for whom work ethics is a growing problem.

WORKPLACE HOUSEKEEPING:

Housekeeping is not just about cleanliness. It includes keeping work areas neat and orderly; maintaining halls and floors free of slip and trip hazards; and removing of waste materials (e.g., paper, cardboard) and other fire hazards from work areas. Good housekeeping is also a basic part of accident and fire prevention

DEVELOPING LEADERSHIP SKILLS IN YOUTH:

In order for youth to be prepared to work in partnership with adults, they need to develop and/or enhance their leadership skills.

LEADERSHIP TRAINING PREPARES YOUTH TO:

  • Manage time
  • Work as a team
  • Set goals
  • Facilitate meetings
  • Promoting youth leadership development is a great way to promote positive life skills learning

To fully participate with adults, youth also need to be informed about the adult perspective of the problem, challenge or issue being discussed: the jargon that adults use to describe their work; and strategies for approaching the work. In other words, we need to be sure the field is level for all of the players.

YOUTH ENTREPRENEURSHIP PROGRAM:

Many young people in South Africa start their journey into adulthood in poverty, with a limited education and limited skills which makes it exceedingly difficult to find formal employment and hence have no foreseeable way to make a living. We want to establish a platform to support and empower the youth by giving them the basic tools with which to start and run a successful business.

This program includes the following:

  • Basic entrepreneurship skills
  • Starting and running a business

This course will change the mindset of the students and encourage them to take control of their futures and

pen their eyes to the opportunities available to them.

Our aim with the above courses is to provide the students with the necessary insight, purpose and objectives that will enable them to excel in the workplace and which in turn will assist them to become leaders in their field of choice.
